In a recent update, Outlook for Windows has introduced a feature called Advanced Typography, and for many users this has been automatically enabled. This feature includes helpful visibility improvements like text justification and auto-hyphenation, but if you would like greater control over how your emails are rendered, here is how you can turn that off:
- In Outlook, click "File"
- Click "Options" on the left
- In the new menu that appears, select "Mail" on the left hand side
- At the top of the "Mail" page, select "Editor Options..."
- In the new menu, on the left hand side, select "Advanced"
- Scroll all the way down
- Under "Reading Mode", turn off:
- Use Advanced Typography
- Use Smart Justification
- Use Hyphenation
If you don't see these options, you may need to update your Outlook, these were automatic features in an older version of Outlook, so make sure yours is up to date.
