Overview of the survey block
Surveys are an effective way to gather employee feedback and measure engagement without requiring recipients to leave their inbox. The modern editor includes a dedicated Survey content block that allows you to embed Workshop surveys directly into your emails.
Using surveys in your emails enables you to ask targeted questions, collect real-time feedback, and improve your internal communications. Recipients can respond to survey questions right in their email client, making it convenient and increasing response rates.
Adding a survey block to your email
To include a survey in your email:
- Click the Build tab in the left panel.
- Select the Content section to view available content blocks.
- Locate and click the Survey block.
- Drag the Survey block into your email canvas where you want it to appear.
- The Survey block will appear with a placeholder area in your email.
Selecting a survey
After adding the Survey block:
- Click on the Survey block to select it.
-
A settings panel will appear allowing you to choose which Survey type to embed, including...
- Rating
- Up / Down
- Mood
- Yes / No
- Suggestion Box (Text enabled for custom feedback)
Tip: Make sure your survey is finalized and tested before embedding it in an email. You can edit survey questions in the Surveys tool before adding it to your email.
Survey best practices
- Keep surveys short (3–5 questions maximum) to increase completion rates when embedded in emails.
- Ask clear, specific questions that are easy to understand.
- Use appropriate question types (multiple choice, rating scales, open-ended, etc.).
- Place the survey prominently in your email, but after a brief introduction.
- Add a Heading or Paragraph block above the survey to explain why you're asking for feedback.
- Test the survey in your email preview before sending to ensure it displays correctly.
- Consider setting a deadline for survey responses to encourage timely completion.
Survey response tracking
After sending an email with a survey:
- Responses are collected in real-time as recipients complete the survey.
- View survey results by going to the Emails tab > selecting the email > selecting the Surveys tab or in your email campaign analytics.
- Access detailed response data, including response rates and individual answers.
- Use insights from survey responses to inform future communications.
Tip: Monitor survey response rates. If they're low, consider reducing the number of questions or improving the survey introduction text in your email.
Formatting your survey email
To maximize survey engagement:
- Use an engaging subject line that mentions the survey or feedback request.
- Add a brief introduction paragraph explaining the purpose of the survey.
- Insert the Survey block.
- Consider adding a thank you message or call-to-action after the survey.
- Keep the email layout clean and uncluttered so the survey stands out.
