What is a mobile-specific edit?
By default, an email's styling is shared between desktop and mobile — a setting like padding or rounded corners looks the same on both. A mobile-specific edit lets you override certain settings just for the mobile view, without changing how the email looks on desktop.
This is useful when a design choice that works well on a wide desktop screen feels cramped or awkward on a narrow mobile screen, or vice versa.
Identifying settings that support mobile-specific edits
Within the desktop version of an email, settings like padding and rounded corners behave normally, with no indicator next to their label.
Switch to the mobile preview using the phone icon above the email canvas. Any setting that can be given a mobile-specific value now shows a small icon next to its label.
Before you've made any changes, this icon simply marks that the setting is eligible for a mobile-specific edit — the value shown still matches desktop.
Creating a mobile-specific edit
To create a mobile-specific edit:
- Switch to the mobile preview.
- Select the block you want to adjust.
- Change a supported setting — for example, increase the padding or add rounded corners.
Once you change the value, the setting's label shows a Mobile badge, confirming the value is now specific to mobile and detached from desktop.
Note: Until you make a change, a mobile setting stays linked to its desktop value — updating the value on desktop will also update mobile. Once you edit it on mobile, the two are no longer linked, and each can be changed independently.
Removing a mobile-specific edit
To remove a mobile-specific edit and return the setting to whatever is set on desktop, select the X on its Mobile badge.
This reverts the value on mobile and re-links it to desktop, so future desktop changes will apply to mobile again too.
Tip: You can mix and match — keep some settings linked to desktop while overriding others for mobile, all within the same block.
Confirming desktop and mobile stay independent
Switching back to desktop shows your original desktop values untouched — mobile-specific edits don't carry over.
Which settings support mobile-specific edits
Mobile-specific edits are available for settings related to sizing, alignment, and padding. This includes things like:
- Padding
- Rounded corners
- Content alignment
- Image sizing
Note: Not every setting supports a mobile-specific edit. Settings without the small icon next to their label — such as background color in some contexts — will always match between desktop and mobile.
