Workshop's blackout date feature allows users the ability to prevent emails from being sent on a specific date or period of days.
Requirements:
- You must be on our Premium plan
- You must have a user role of 'Admin' to create blackout dates in Workshop
Once a blackout date is created n your calendar, no email communications will be allowed to send on that date.
How to create a blackout date
Navigate to your calendar from within the Top Navigation
On your communications calendar, hover over the date in which you want to apply a blackout date upon. In the right corner of the date, you will see a + icon present. Click on this + icon to see a menu containing the ability to 'Create a blackout date'
Click on Blackout date and you will have the ability to provide further information about your blackout date & add it to your calendar:
Note:
- Your blackout date can be a singular date or span across multiple dates.
- You can provide a title or description to provide further details to your Workshop team, title is required but a description is not
Once you add a blackout date, any Workshop user can view the blackout date and its details from the company's Workshop communications calendar.
If there are already scheduled emails on the date where you add a blackout date, those emails will be moved to a draft state & the owner of each email will receive an email notifications to inform them that their email was unscheduled due to a blackout date being added.
Any Admin user - creator of the blackout date or not - has the ability to edit or delete a blackout date.
How is a user prevented from sending & scheduling on a blackout date
When a user selects to send now or schedule an email to send on a blackout date, the user will be informed they cannot Review & Send due to a blackout date.

Who can create & manage a blackout date?
Only your Workshop admin users can create, edit, delete a blackout date.
Can anyone see a blackout date from the communications calendar?
All of your Workshop users will be able to see blackout dates present on their communications calendar and view the details of each blackout date.
Does a blackout date prevent communications from going out all day?
Yes, a blackout date prevents communications from going out at any hour during the scheduled date(s). If you want to prevent communications from only going out during a certain time period within a day, we recommend either:
- Adding a blackout date for the specific day and then day of, you can remove the blackout date and open up the ability to send email communications
- Adding a note to represent that certain time frame within the day that should be a blackout period
