In the Modern Editor, a list and the paragraphs around it can live in the same text block. That flexibility means you won't need to pull these items into separate blocks — but it also means you may want a different line height for your bullets than for the rest of your text. Here's how to control line height at both the block level and for just your list.
What This Does
Line height controls the vertical spacing between lines of text. The Modern Editor lets you set it two ways: for an entire text block, or for just the text you've highlighted (like a bulleted list). This lets you keep your paragraph copy tight while giving your list a little more breathing room.
Before You Start
- These settings apply to text inside a single text block — the same block can hold paragraphs and a list together.
- Block-level line height affects all text in the block. Highlight-level line height affects only the text you select.
- Line height options include Single, 1.25, 1.5, and Double.
Set line height for an entire text block
Use this when you want all of the text in the block — paragraphs and list alike — to share the same spacing.
- Click the text block to select it and open the Text drawer on the left.
- Under Line height, choose a value (for example, Double).
- The spacing updates for every line in the block.
Heads up: this changes the line height of all text in the block, not just your list. If you only want to adjust the list, use the steps below instead.
Set line height for just your list
Use this when you want to keep your paragraph text tight but give only your bulleted list more spacing. It works just like applying a text highlight — you select the text first, then apply the setting.
- In the text block, click and drag to highlight your list.
- In the formatting toolbar at the top, open the line height control and choose a value (for example, Double).
- Only the highlighted list updates — your surrounding paragraph text keeps its original spacing.
Tip: if your spacing changes for the whole block, you likely adjusted line height in the left-hand Text drawer rather than the toolbar. Undo, re-highlight just your list, and set line height from the toolbar instead.
