What padding is

Padding controls the empty space between the edge of a row or content block and whatever sits inside it. In the modern email editor, almost every content type — rows, buttons, paragraphs, videos, and survey blocks — has its own padding setting, so you can fine-tune spacing without affecting anything else in the email.

Tip: Padding is measured in pixels and, by default, applies equally to all four sides. Uncheck "Apply to all sides" wherever you see that option if you need different spacing on each side.

Setting default padding

Default styles set the foundation for every new piece of content you add to an email, including padding. To set a default padding across the whole email:

1. Open the Styles tab on the left-hand toolbar.
2. Scroll to the Padding section.

3. Adjust your Row and/or Block padding to meet your needs
   
   

   Note: The option for "Apply to all sides" will be selected by default. To adjust padding for each side individually, de-select this checkbox. 

Any padding value you set here will automatically apply whenever you drag a new button into the email, so you don't have to restyle each one individually.

Adjusting row padding

Padding at the row level controls the space between the outer edge of the row and the columns or content inside it. To adjust it:

1. Click directly into a row in the email canvas.
2. With the row selected, open the Styles tab in the side panel — you'll land on Row settings.
3. Find the Padding field and enter a pixel value.

4. Leave "Apply to all sides" checked to apply the value evenly, or uncheck it to set each side independently.

   

Note: Row settings also include background color, background width, content alignment, rounded corners, and mobile stacking — all in the same panel as padding.

Adjusting button block padding

Individual buttons placed in the email (for example, an RSVP button) can override the default padding set in Styles without affecting any other button:

1. Select the button block in the canvas.
2. In the side panel, scroll down to the Block options section.

3. Set the Padding value below Button alignment.

   

Because this padding is scoped to the block, changing it here only affects that one button — the global default in Styles stays untouched.

Adjusting paragraph and text block padding

Text blocks (paragraphs, including mixed headings, body copy, and bullet lists in a single block) have their own padding control, found alongside line height and letter spacing:

1. Click into the paragraph block.
2. Open the Styles tab in the side panel.

3. Adjust the Padding field to add breathing room around the text.

   

Tip: Increasing this value spreads the block out — useful when a paragraph feels cramped against the row or the content above and below it.

Setting video play button padding

When a video is added to the email, the play button overlay has its own padding setting, separate from the video block itself:

1. Select the video block.
2. Under Play button overlay, choose the button theme and shape.

3. Set the Padding value to control the space around the play icon inside its button.

   

Adjusting survey suggestion box button padding

The suggestion box button in a Survey block (for example, a "Send us your feedback" button) uses the same button-style padding control as other buttons in the editor:

1. Click the suggestion box button inside the survey block.
2. Scroll to Block options in the side panel.

3. Adjust Padding beneath Button alignment, just as you would for a standalone button.
